More on the Torpedo Wagon
This wagon has now had most of the deck timbers removed. This reveals the chassis which is in fairly good condition. The buffers & springs have been removed from one end for refurbishment. Also the 2 springs on one end have been removed. These were quite bad having expanded with rust and one fell apart on removal. The springs will now get needle gunned, wire brushed & painted prior to the straps welded back together.
The lower part of the axle box needs to be removed to lift the chassis high enough to extract the springs. The axle journals were in good condition, as were the oiler wicks & pads.
Most of the chassis is now exposed ready for a good clean & paint.
